LAYUP MOLD
Layup Molds also called Layup Tools, or LM for short are precise tools that are designed and manufactured net to the part profile and generally have excess around the edge of the part that is later trimmed using a Mill Fixture. The layup tool is used by strategically placing a series of woven fabric or glass sheeting in conjunction with polyester or epoxy resins to make the composite part shape. The tool and layup matrix is placed into an oven under vacuum or into an autoclave and cured at +/- 350F. Some prepregs can be cured a lower temperatures and even Room temperature.
Common tooling material: Aluminum, Steel, Invar, Composite, Graphite.
